After 10yrs, which includes 2 kids, a university degree and starting a career, I found myself overweight, out of shape and unhappy with myself. Six weeks after my second child my husband who was also participating in CrossFit signed me up and forced me to go.

One year later, I’m 45lbs lighter, 6 dress sizes smaller and in the best shape of my life. Nothing about CrossFit or losing weight has been easy but through the support of the CrossFit staff and the other Crossfitters I have achieved my goals. I’m lucky to be a member of this CrossFit family and I can’t wait to see what challenges the next years hold for me.

Last October I decided I needed to get healthy.  Before we go any further let me give you a little background about myself.  I am 27 years old and throughout my whole childhood I was extremely active.  I played every sport imaginable and carried on playing hockey at a competitive level until I was 20.

After I stopped playing hockey I slowly started packing on the pounds and didn’t watch what I ate at all even though I knew better. So last October I started working out on my own and was seeing a little bit of results, then I ran into my friend Jacob, who happens to be a trainer at Crossfit AI and he told me I should come in and try one of his classes.  So I went to my first class and was immediately hooked, the atmosphere in the gym is contagious.  There is a kind of no non-sense attitude at a crossfit gym, you get there, you work extremely hard, and after you laugh about how you thought you were going to die.  The best part about a Crossfit gym is that the people are more like a family then just people you see at the gym.  At the end of the workout it doesn’t matter if you scaled it to your ability or not you know the pain and pleasure of completing a workout.  The other great thing about Crossfit AI is that the people who come to the gym are not only excited about physical fitness, they are extremely health conscious.  I have learned more about diet in nine months than I knew my whole life prior to Crossfit.

Since Joining Crossfit I have lost over fifty pounds and put on a tonne of muscle mass.  I can also say that I look the best I ever have as an adult.  If you are serious about changing and want to strengthen your mind and body I highly recommend to come out and give crossfit a try, the trainers are amazing here and have sparked a change in me that I wasn’t sure was there.

Crossfit is an exhilarating and rewarding workout of our muscles, pairing with our minds.  Every workout is unique while toning and building different muscle groups.  Our fitness level and age does not hold us back from exploring and reaping the benefits of competing with ourselves to be the best we can be.

Our personal trainers are our friends and confidants, who are there to guide and help our every step along the way, from our very first orientation, through our personal training classes to attending the regular classes.  Our fellow Crossfit members quickly became our friends and family, encouraging us along the way and never becoming our competitor.

The benefits of Crossfit AI for us are endless.  From self scheduling our classes to fit our busy schedule, lowered blood pressure, weight loss, lower stress levels, more toned body, higher stamina and a general sense of well being.

Raivo and I refer to the classes as “dates with many fringe benefits”.

I arrived at CrossFit AI in May 2010. Many arrive at  the gym with an athletic background. I arrived with a laundry list of injuries (to the neck, shoulders and
back) sustained from an Motor Vehicle Accident, a mix of prescriptions, zero athletic
experience, and eyes as wide as a deer in headlights!


The coaches have used their extensive knowledge of sports physiology and performance to help me rehabilitate and thrown all of their energy into my recovery and more from day one. Injuries create a lot of mental and physical barriers – CrossFit breaks them
down. I am proof that it is scalable and deeply rewarding – for any
level of experience, condition or age. The coaching excellence extends to lifestyle and nutrition. I have  dropped from 26% to 16% body fat and experienced incredible changes in  body composition over six months by enrolling in AI’s nutrition coaching.

Sweating on that rubber floor, I acquired the knowledge, discipline
and confidence to lead a rewarding and active life. If you are tired of working out in a gym full of strangers, join the family at CrossFit AI.


Oh, and get used to people knowing your name – you will hear it when
you are cheered on during a Workout of the Day and you will hear it when everybody
asks you when you are coming in the following day :) CrossFit AI is more than a gym, it is a family. Lifelong friendships have resulted from walking into this box. These people live the life I’ve always wanted – and now they are showing me how to live that life.
